Description

Cali is a 6 year old goldadore working for the Chula Vista Fire Department. Cali was raised by Louise Henry with Southeastern Guide Dogs. Her energy level made her better suited for law enforcement. In 2011 we responded to a fire at a dentist’s office. Cali alerted to several areas at the fires’ origin but when I started to lead her away from the area, she pulled me in the opposite direction toward the back of the building. She led me up a walkway and alerted next to a separate shed but there was no burn damage. She led me to the back of the main structure and alerted along the side of the structure every few feet; no burn damage. All alerts led me away from where the fire was started. A witness came forward and it was discovered that the suspect had poured gasoline along the structure and attempted to light both sheds on fire. Without Cali, we wouldn’t have looked at areas that were not burned. She cemented my belief in her ability to assist fire investigators in locating valuable evidence. K9 Cali selflessly comes to work every day. She asks for nothing more than food and love. She has been deployed to over 60 fires in San Diego County and assists local fire departments. Her work has helped convict 6 criminals. Aside from investigating fire scenes, she loves doing demonstration to kids about fire safety. The community loves her as much as she loves them.
