Entry Category Military Dogs

Location Arnoldsburg, West Virginia

Retired MWD Lio J281 was taken into service in Tucson AZ in 2005. From there he went on to Lackland AFB. By Early 2006 he was stationed at Fort Campbell Ky. where he served 8 yrs.
As a dual purpose K9 Lio not only served overseas he also served on base. I believe his Certificate of Meritorious Service says it best
Lio J281 Provided distinguished service while assigned to Fort Campbell from April 1 2006 to May 15 2013. While providing support to combat operations for Operation Iraqi Freedom, Force Protection measures and law enforcement missions. The distinctive accomplishments of MWD Lio J281 reflect credit upon the Department of Defense Military Working Dog Program.

Now at 11 1/2 yrs of age I can tell you Lio has paid a steep price for his service, both physically and mentally. His stomach sewn to his body cavity , broken teeth, gun powder burns to his eyes and various minor aches and pains. He continues on in the form of a true Hero. Protecting his family and property from all dangers. Daily vehicle inspections are still mandatory for the risk of car bombs apparently never fades. Additionally lightning , thunder, gun fire and distant helicopters must all be reported, day or night.
Most important to us is his unflinching love, devotion, loyalty, obedience and compassion. For he must always sleep with the sick, protect the weak and guard against the night.
