Callie began working in 2005 with children with communication disorders. In 2006, she also began working with Gabriel’s Angels, and her focus became working with children in crisis. A regular visitor at the Children Crisis Center for over 8 years, she is well known for “working her magic” with children. Often survivors of abuse and neglect, some of these children have never experienced unconditional love, which Callie delivers generously.

Her impact was so remarkable; she began doing Individual Interventions with the highest risk children. Working one-on-one with the child and his/her therapist, Callie brings a calmness to the sessions, which encourages children to be open and honest with their feelings. And when emotions are overwhelming, Callie is there with a kiss on the cheek or hand. The children feel loved and safe with her and often lay by her side and cuddle. Callie also does group therapy with violence-prone teenagers in a lock-down facility.

In 2010, Callie became certified with HOPE Animal-Assisted Crisis Response. With HOPE, she served at the memorials after the Tucson shootings in 2011, welcomed for her canine grief support by the FBI and Federal Marshals. She responded to two school shooting sites, helping students and faculty cope with their loss and regain a sense of normalcy. Most recently, Callie and her teammates provided support at the request of Arizona’s Division of Emergency Management to the community of Yarnell, AZ during the aftermath of the fires that damaged homes and took the lives of 19 firefighters.
