Nominee Major was rescued from a hoarding situation in Detroit May 2011. From there he spent months with a rescue until they defaulted on his boarding fees. Again with his future uncertain Major finally got the break he needed when he was evaluated by the training staff of Stiggy's Dogs. Major then patiently waited four months before he entered the training to possibly become a service dog. When Major began the program things progressed slowly as Major hadn't been exposed to the outside world for as long as we know. Major then started gaining confidence and learned very quickly with the assistance of another dog. That's when his world was changed for the final time.
United States Marine Corps Veteran Terrance McGlade entered the picture. Terrance suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and a Traumatic Brain Injury. His wounds nearly ended his life on multiple occasions. Terrance took a chance on Major who was by no means a shoe-in to graduate the service dog training and worked every moment for months to successfully complete the program. Psychiatric Service Dog Major has given Terrance the confidence to go back to school and do the things many of us take for granted. Terrance is giving Major what he waited so long for. A permanent loving home for the rest of his life.
