I am a 34 year old female and I am nominating my dog Ben for the "hero dog award." I was born blind at birth and early in my childhood had both of my eyes removed. In 2005 I got "my" hero dog (Ben), a Belgian shepherd-Malinois mix. In 2006 during a family vacation I developed a blood clot in my left leg and the only constant support I had emotionally and physically was my dog Ben. Ben was not only there for me when I was feeling helpless or sad, but he was also there for me when I needed help getting off the floor being a brace for me, picking items up off the floor when I drop them, being a guide for me when traveling in my wheelchair, and just being a loving familiar face after having a seizure. Ben is now retired and living a normal dog's life with my parents in Arizona. He has developed severe arthritis in his rear legs and does not move very well anymore. He is my best friend in the whole world and I could never thank him enough for the help he has given me in my life, and that is why I feel that he should be nominated for Hero Dog Award.
